How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are different pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the fourth one was dry. When I crank the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success.
